Mepham's Eimaan Khan sews masks for Key Club

When Wellington C. Mepham High School junior Eimaan Kahn saw a need for fabric masks during the Covid-19 pandemic, she wove together a plan in true Key Club fashion.

Kahn, the club's president, began sewing masks for people in the community with some help from her mother.

“It’s easy for us to stay home and do something to help the community,” Kahn explained. “According to the CDC’s recommendations, people should wear a mask in public when they cannot social distance.”

Kahn pitched the idea at a Key Club Zoom meeting where members were brainstorming on how to best help the community. Members had already baked good for essential workers and wrote thank-you letters to accompany deliveries.

“The goal is to keep kids engaged in a time when we all feel helpless,” explained Theana Cheliotes, a school social worker and faculty adviser to the club. “This is a way we can help from our homes in a safe manner.”

Kahn also posted a video to social media letting the community know about the masks.

Donations are welcome, as are fabric and/or supplies. All proceeds are put toward future Key Club community-minded projects or given to a charity.
