Far Rockaway man arrested for Lawrence assault

A Far Rockaway resident who allegedly inappropriately touched a Burlington Coat Factory employee also was said to have become combative twice had to be subdued by Nassau County police officers after his arrest on Nov. 27, according to police.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to the department store at 345 Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence at 5:30 p.m. on that Friday. The police discovered that Alfred Campbell, 30, of Beech Street, had allegedly touched a Burlington staff member. During the ensuing arrest, Campbell struggled with the officers, police said. He suffered a bloody lip and a county police medic was called to the scene.

While being taken to an area hospital, Campbell allegedly became physically aggressive again and in the attempt to restrain him, he kicked a police officer in the throat that resulted in pain and trouble breathing. The officer was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Campbell was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and petit larceny.

Arraigned on Nov. 28, Campbell remains in custody. At this time he does not have an attorney. His next court date is Dec 2.
